Erstmals auf sich aufmerksam machte der 1987 geborene Rapper Kendrick Lamar mit seinem Mixtape "Overly Dedicated" im Jahr 2010. Ein Jahr später folgte sein Debütalbum "Section.80", das zu einem der erfolgreichsten Rap-Alben des Jahres avancierte. Mit seinem zweiten Album "good kid, m.A.A.d city" (2012) konnte er die Erfolge seines ersten Albums nochmals toppen. Kendrick Lamar arbeitete bislang mit Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem uvm. zusammen und trat bei einigen Tracks als Gastmusiker auf.
